Canonical Rebrand

04.01.2007

Founded in late 2004, Canonical Ltd is a company headquartered in Europe with 130 employees working in over 18 countries. Canonical is the commercial sponsor of Ubuntu project (The world's largest community driven open source software initiative).

I was recently commissioned to partake in a rebranding exercise.
I had to develop a modern system that embodies the brands' key values of being open, being committed to excellence in everything they do, and of continually changing the game with how they develop and market their technologies.

Underlying all of this is the core philosophy that underpins Ubuntu - a shared sense of humanity. The existing positioning for Ubuntu is "Linux for human beings". It is this focus on people - users, employees and the communities that help develop and promote Ubuntu - that sets the tone for the brand as a whole.

The exercise included establishing a font, color palette, information graphics and reflects how the proposed brand would be executed within CD pack and corporate brochures.
